Middle and High School Instructional Facilitator Job Description
Position Title: Instructional Facilitator (Middle and High School)
Location: Surry County Schools, North Carolina
Reports To: Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction
Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Contract
Position Overview: The Middle and High School Instructional Facilitator plays a key role in supporting educational excellence and student achievement within Surry County Schools. This position is designed to work closely with beginning teachers as well as all content area teachers. To ensure high-quality instruction and meet the needs of diverse learners, the instructional facilitator will provide support to teachers by mentoring, co-teaching, data analysis, professional development, and instructional best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentoring and Support for Beginning Teachers:
- Provide one-on-one and small group mentoring to beginning teachers, helping them acclimate to the classroom environment and implement effective teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with beginning teachers to develop lesson plans, and classroom management techniques, using data to drive instruction and provide training on high-yield instructional strategies, and upack standards to ensure alignment to state standards.
- Offer constructive feedback and conduct regular informal observations to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
- Facilitate professional growth by guiding beginning teachers through the state's Beginning Teacher Support Program (BTSP).
- Specific Support for Teachers Without a Clear License:
- Assist beginning teachers in meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a clear teaching license, including guidance on Praxis exams, state-mandated coursework, and professional development opportunities.
- Provide additional mentoring and support tailored to the needs of teachers enrolled in alternative licensure programs, ensuring they have the resources and guidance to succeed in the classroom while working towards full licensure.
- Collaborate with school leadership and human resources to ensure compliance with state requirements and to monitor progress toward licensure.
- Co-Teaching and Collaborative Instruction:
- Partner with teachers across all content areas to co-teach lessons, model best practices, unpack standards, and integrate differentiated instruction.
- Support teachers in implementing innovative, high-yield instructional strategies that align with state standards and district goals.
- Assist in the development and delivery of a curriculum that meets the needs of diverse learners.
- Professional Development:
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver professional development sessions focused on instructional best practices, data-driven decision-making, and content-specific pedagogy.
- Visit professional learning communities at the request of the administrative team. Encourage teachers to collaborate, share resources, and discuss challenges related to state-tested content areas.
- Stay current with educational research and trends to provide teachers with up-to-date instructional resources and techniques.
- Data Analysis and Instructional Planning:
- Analyze student performance data from state and district assessments to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop data-driven instructional plans that target student needs and close achievement gaps.
- Assist teachers in utilizing formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and measure student progress.
- Curriculum Development and Alignment:
- Work with district and school administrators to ensure curriculum alignment with state standards and assessment requirements.
- Provide resources and guidance for integrating technology into the curriculum to enhance student learning.
- Support and manage curriculum development and writing processes during NC curriculum review years.
- Collaboration with School Leadership:
- Act as a liaison between teachers and school leadership to communicate instructional needs, challenges, and successes.
- Collaborate with other instructional facilitators and district staff to share best practices and coordinate efforts across schools.
- Connect school leadership and teachers to business and community partners to strengthen partnerships and allow teachers and students to access job/school-embedded professional opportunities.
Qualifications:
- North Carolina teaching license with at least five years of successful classroom experience in a middle or high school setting.
- Experience in mentoring, coaching, or leading professional development for teachers.
- Deep understanding of NC State Standards and tested content areas.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instructional practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field.
- Experience working in a similar instructional leadership role.
- Proficiency in instructional technology and digital learning platforms.
